RICHMOND - Governor McDonnell and First Lady Maureen McDonnell today announced the first "Governor's Easter Egg Hunt," to be held on Wednesday, April 4. The event is free and open to the public and will be held on Capitol Square in Richmond. Guests are invited to register beginning today, Friday, March 23. The governor and first lady will kick off the event shortly after 5:00 p.m. at Capitol Square North Drive, in front of the mansion gate.
First Lady Maureen McDonnell said, "Bob and I are looking forward to welcoming children in the Greater Richmond community to the Capitol to participate in an evening of music and fun. The Governor's Easter Egg Hunt will be an opportunity for families to visit our historic Capitol Square, participate in fun games and to welcome in Easter. We are also encouraging guests to bring baby shower gifts for expectant military moms. As a military wife and Blue Star Mom, I understand how difficult it is on the family when a loved one is away and know that gestures of gratitude such as these gifts can make a big difference for military families. I want to thank the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth, the Virginia Egg Council and the many wonderful partners who made this event possible."
The "Governor's Easter Egg Hunt," hosted by Governor and Mrs. McDonnell will include:
- An Easter Egg hunt with special prize eggs from the Science Museum of Virginia, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Bow Tie Cinemas and more
- Face painting booths staffed by faculty and students from The Steward School Art Department
- Thomas Jefferson reenactor
- Richmond Flying Squirrels mascot Nutsy
- The University of Richmond Spider mascot
- Trip Heartman, Virginia Tourism Commission
- Trooper Teddy, Virginia State Police
- Easter Rabbit
- Music and games provided by DJ Rick Pfamatter
The program will run from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Capitol Square. Directions are provided at EventBrite here. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP to reserve their tickets and print directions and event day information.
